Master & Doctoral Education in Africa is in DISTRESS

Is what we are seeing a dereliction of duty? On the 05/05/2026, I wrote a piece in the Business Daily Africa, a rejoinder to a published article titled “Higher Education and the Gotcha Narrative” penned by a distinguished Professor in the academic circles on 22/04/2026.

My reaction provides fodder for a deeper deconstruction & analysis of our academic system as it is at the intersection of the overarching philosophy & practice. PhD holders should stand out, above the mass of title-loving politicos. A rethink is critical and it is a question for regulators, policy makers, enforcers & educators to ponder if we are to salvage what is left of the pillar to our modern-day civilization.

Pursuit of salutation in place of progressive learning is today a fundamental problem with far reaching implications. This has eroded the principles of education over time calling for radical surgery in Kenya and across Africa.
